Tiny House Listings recently unveiled a new towable dwelling called the Lad. It is perfect for those seeking low-budget downsizing options that are comfortable and cozy. The Lad features a practical and compact interior that can happily house two people. The Lad is an updated version of one of the firm’s previous models, and it is based on a double-axle trailer. It features a length of 20 feet and is the same size as most European tiny homes. The exterior includes painted metal and is topped off with a metal roof.

Designer: Tiny House Listings

The interior of the house occupies around 160 square feet, and it features a finishing in ply. An open layout has been placed on one floor, with the entrance leading to a compact living area that includes a sofa and space for a TV. A storage unit has been integrated as well. The kitchen is closely located, and it isn’t fully featured.

But it does include a countertop, a sink and an electric stove, a fridge/freezer, and an area for appliances and extra storage. The bathroom is also placed nearby, and you can access it via a sliding door. It contains a flushing toilet, a shower, and a small sink.

The tiny home only includes one bedroom, and since it is on the ground floor, it includes plenty of headroom to stand upright. The bedroom includes a double bed with integrated storage, as well as a mini-split air-conditioner, which will heat and cool the entire home. Enough though the bedroom isn’t the largest, the fact that you can stand upright, unlike most bedrooms in other tiny homes is a plus point.

The Lad isn’t the best option if you’re looking for a spacious and roomy tiny home. But if you’re a couple or a small family, then the Lad could be a good fit for you. It includes all the basic amenities, as well as a sense of comfort and coziness that other modern homes often miss out on. Currently, the Lad is priced at US$47,500.

Saudi Arabia has been unveiling quite a few impressive constructions and structures recently, and they don’t seem to be slowing down. They recently announced another project – a massive and impressive stadium that is supposed to be the world’s largest once constructed. It is designed to mimic a seed germinating in the desert. Populous unveiled the plans for the stadium called the King Salman Stadium and Masterplan. It will be located in Riyadh, near a big park area that is under construction at the moment.

Designer: Populous

The stadium will include a circular building consisting of segmented sections with green walls and green roof spaces. The roof will also include walking paths. It will be able to seat over 92,00o, making it the largest stadium in Saudi Arabia and one of the largest in the world. It will contain the main seating, a royal box, hospitality skyboxes, and lounges.

It will also hold 2,200 VIP seats and 300 “VVIP” seats. It will be integrated with internal screens, climbing walls, gardens, and an aquatics center with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and a small athletic stadium. The stadium will also include a running track. The structure is heavily inspired by Saudi Arabia’s natural landscapes, and it will resemble seeds emerging from the Earth, thereby showcasing the country’s initiative to encourage sports participation.

“Inspiration for the design is drawn from Saudi Arabia’s mesmerizing natural landscape, with the symbolic concept of each venue within the masterplan representing a seed that germinates, cracks the earth, and emerges as a dynamic yet seemingly natural intervention,” said Populous. “The planting of these ‘seeds’ symbolizes Saudi Arabia’s commitment to nurturing and growing sports participation across the country, from the grassroots to the elite level.”

The stadium is expected to be completed in late 2029, and it will function as the primary headquarters for the national soccer team. The King Salman Stadium and Masterplan is a part of a whole bunch of stadiums that are currently being constructed in Saudi Arabia – they’re being designed by Populous as well.

Canada-based Rover Tiny Homes’ latest Cypress model was downsized quite interestingly. It isn’t mounted on a trailer, which makes it not very portable, but quite spacious with a roomy interior that is apt for a family. The Cypress is intended to be installed on permanent foundations, so it isn’t a towable option if you’re seeking one. It features a length of 44 feet, making it one of the bigger models on the market, and a width of 12 feet.

Designer: Rover Tiny Homes

The home features a finishing in metal siding paired with cedar trim and generous glazing, which allows the interior to fill with natural light. You can enter the living room through double glass doors. The living room is spacious and open and features a tongue-and-groove pine ceiling. It also includes some trim made from 100-year-old reclaimed barn wood, a sofa, chairs, and small tables. The kitchen is closely located, including a breakfast bar for three people, an oven with a four-burner stove, a microwave, a dishwasher, cabinetry, and a sink. A second entrance is included in the kitchen as well.

The bathroom is located near the kitchen, and it includes a bathtub/shower, which isn’t usually seen in most tiny homes. It also hosts a vanity sink, a flushing toilet, a stacked washing machine, and a dryer as well. The tiny home is equipped with one downstairs bedroom, which has plenty of headroom to stand upright.

There are stairs located next to the bathroom which offer access to another bedroom. Even though the bedroom is upstairs, it has ample amount of headroom to stand straight. There is another bedroom on the upper story, but like most tiny home bedrooms, this one has a low ceiling. This tiny home is relatively spacious, truly testing the boundaries of what a micro-home is. It is larger than most tiny homes on the market, but it serves as a comfortable and excellent option for larger families who may not be able to fit in the truly tiny houses. The Cypress is priced at US$143,000.

European tiny homes may not be as large and extravagant as their North American counterparts, but they do tend to be more detailed and impressive. Since the towing laws in Europe are stricter, they tend to be more compact and lightweight. Designed by Baluchon, Leïla’s Tiny House is a comfortable and cozy home featuring a length of 20 feet. It is a lovely light-filled space that is ideal for two people.

Designer: Baluchon

The tiny home is based on a double-axle trailer and features a finishing in red cedar, topped with a metal roof. It has a compact size, amped with generous glazing. The interior of the home is finished in spruce, and hints of Moroccan-inspired color have been added to the home, integrating an interesting vibe. The inside feels warm and inviting. The vibrant colors create an environment that also feels lively, forming a positive aura.

The home features one entrance that leads you to the kitchen. It is quite spacious for a tiny French home, with a simple yet well-equipped interior. The home includes an oven, a two-burner propane-powered stove, a sink, a small fridge and freezer, cabinetry, and a breakfast bar for two. The living room is closely located, and it includes a large window as well as a small wood-burning stove for warmth. A big daybed with integrated storage is included as well, and it can be used as a sofa and guest bed.

The opposite end of the house hosts the bathroom. It can be accessed through a sliding door, and it is equipped with a toilet and shower, but no sink. This isn’t hygienic and is pretty inconvenient if we’re honest. Residents will have to wash their hands in the kitchen. The home only includes one bedroom, and it can be accessed by a wooden ladder. The bedroom is like most bedrooms found in tiny homes, with a low ceiling, a double bed, and shelving. Leïla’s Tiny Home is priced at US$90,000.

OODA recently unveiled the Hora Verticale in Tirana, Albania, and they are back with another banger – Ndarja. Ndarja is a square, high-rise building that will be located in central Tirana. It measures around 355,000 sq ft and will span over 22 floors. The word Ndarja roughly translates to split or separation in Albanian, which does the building justice, since it will be pulled apart to create two visually intriguing towers.

One tower will accommodate office spaces on the lower floors and luxurious residences on the upper floors. The second tower will contain a retail space downstairs and a hotel on the upper stories.

Designer: OODA

The exterior is quite fascinating, and it will be covered with different plants and trees. The vegetation selected will be tough enough to handle the wind and sunlight while offering shade to the residents. The exterior will also include perforated metal sheeting to regulate the sunlight. The ground level will host a square with a reflective pool and more greenery. This space will be integrated between both towers.

“A transparent water mirror serves as a portal at its core, drawing natural light underground and linking the exterior to the interior,” said OODA. “This open area integrates the greenery from the surrounding streets, the square, and the balcony gardens, creating a pleasant microclimate for the neighborhood. The square, no longer just a passageway, becomes a true urban oasis.”

The facade is earthy-toned, allowing the structure to blend seamlessly with the city. The metal sheets reflect the balconies into the city, thereby mirroring the urban environment and creating an interaction that binds the inside and the surroundings. This forms a harmonious connection between the interior environment and the urban environment.

The incredible project is currently in the licensing phase, and Ndarja is expected to be constructed in 2029. This impressive project is a part of a large construction effort in Tirana which includes multiple other impressive buildings such as the Bond Tower and Klan TV HQ by OODA, and other structures by BIG and MVRDV.

]]>

The Cumberland is designed by Wind River Built, and it features a length of 45 feet. It is quite a big home, and as big as a tiny home can be before it needs to be called something else. All the rooms are arranged on one level, and the house showcases a spacious open interior with a home office as well as a large porch.

It has an increased width of 12 feet instead of the typical 8 feet. It needs a permit to be towed on a public road in North America, but this also implies that it has a spacious and free-flowing interior. The exterior showcases a finish of engineered wood, and it is topped by a metal roof. You can access the home through a porch area, and it also includes a ceiling fan.

Designer: Wind River Built

The interior of the home occupies around 400 sq ft, with the entrance opening into the living room. The living room includes a sofa, as well as space for a TV and entertainment center. The kitchen is placed next to the living room, and it is quite spacious. It features a breakfast for two, an oven, a built-in dishwasher, an electric cooktop and an entertainment center. There is space for a microwave and cabinetry as well.

The kitchen is connected to the home office, which includes a big desk and seating. The bathroom is adjacent to the home office, and it includes a flushing toilet, vanity sink, and a tiled shower. The office is next to a small laundry room with sufficient space for a stacked washing machine and dryer. The opposite end of the home includes the bedroom, and since it is a downstairs bedroom, it has plenty of headroom to stand upright. The room seems quite spacious, and it includes a king- or queen-sized bedroom with plenty of floorspace, and storage areas.

The Cumberland only includes one bedroom, but it can be incorporated with more if needed. You can swap the office for bunk beds, creating additional sleeping space if needed. A loft bedroom can also be installed, so the home will then have a sleeping capacity of six people. The tiny home is currently up for sale, and priced at around US$148,000.

Unique 71-Meter-Tall Vertical Village In Tirana Will Include House-Shaped “Puzzle Piece” Components

]]>

Designed by Network of Architecture and Atelier4, this mixed-use high-rise in Tirana, Albania, is a 71-meter-tall structure called the Puzzle Tirana Tower. It is made up of house-shaped blocks that protrude out quirkily from the facades. It is designed to be a vertical village and will include 32,700 square meters of commercial space, penthouses, apartments, and a hotel. It is currently a concept, but once constructed will include stacked volumes that mimic the shape of  “the archetypal village house with a gabled roof”.

Designer: Network of Architecture and Atelier4

The house-shaped blocks will project from the facade, maintaining distances between 0.5 and three meters. They will be built in different colors, orientations, and forms, showcasing varied layouts. They are essentially puzzle pieces that will seamlessly and gracefully “click into the structure”.

“The concept of the project comes from the fusion and densification of two worlds: urban and rural, into a single architectural intervention,” said studio founder Lukas Rungger. “The proposal celebrates the concept of abstracted puzzle pieces, always different but still similar, through its varying orientations the fragments collectively shape the facade, interweave with each other and create a common built collage.”

The tower will be incorporated with local plants and shrubs forming surreal hanging gardens, loggias, and extra space for residents. A big house-shaped void will be included, to make it look like “the missing piece of the puzzle”. This will be carved in the center of the tower and will accommodate cantilevered balconies.

“The puzzles work as value-added spaces for each housing unit,” Rungger said. “Depending on the individual needs of the inhabitants, it can transform into a loggia, an open-air cinema, a relaxation zone, a playground, a fireplace and many more versatile functions.”

The first two floors will include the building’s commercial spaces. This can be accessed through a triangular entrance at the ground level. The tower will include multiple sculptural elements, as well as a central foyer. The foyer will contain staircases that offer access to the upper floors. The basement levels will accommodate a multi-level underground car park. The second to the sixth floor will host a hotel, as well as apartment units. The seventh to the sixteenth floors will include apartments only.

]]>

This week, Google unveiled its first mass timber office building in Sunnyvale, California. It is designed to be a cutting-edge and eco-friendly building that will serve as a productive and conducive workspace for the employees. It was designed, keeping in mind the needs and requirements of the environment and employees. It is a five-story structure that will have 96% less carbon emissions than a traditional steel and concrete building of the same size.

“This building, 1265 Borregas, showcases creating sustainable buildings that empower people to do their best work,” said Michelle Kaufmann, Google’s director of R+D for the Built Environment and the guiding force behind the creation of the new workspace in Sunnyvale’s Moffett Park district.

Designer: Google

As mentioned, it is the first building to be constructed from mass timber, which is a new type of engineered wood. Small pieces of wood are layered and laminated together to build large beams and walls. The office is designed to create an environment of collaboration, support, and focus. It is equipped with neighborhood spaces that will facilitate hybrid connections and interesting collaborations.

It is a representation of Google’s priority to build nature-based or biophilic workplaces. According to research, people work best when surrounded by nature, and with this new workspace, Google is hoping to create a fresh and inspiring work environment. Timber is exposed inside and outside the office, which allows natural light to stream in while offering splendid views of the Northern California landscape. Automatic wooden blinds have been integrated, and they adapt to the sun’s position, minimizing glare.

Mass timber is blessed with regenerative qualities, as it can absorb and store carbon over time. Hence, choosing mass timber was a sustainable and eco-friendly decision made by Google. It also reduces carbon emissions that are emitted from the extraction, production, and transportation of traditional building materials. Additionally, 100% of the structural mass timber lumber used to build 1265 Borregas was sourced from responsibly managed forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Around three acres of pollinator-friendly native plants, such as coast live oak, California wild rose, and common milkweed,d were planted at the site and its neighboring sites. This further encourages the creation of an office building and site that is sustainable and efficient. The widespread presence of greenery helps to improve employee wellbeing, ensuring they focus and work better.
